George Mason University’s Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations
Patriot Alumni Liaisons is an emerging organization at George Mason University aimed at bridging the student community with the alumni association. PAL needed a logo that was distinct and recognizable enough to stand out from other GMU-affiliated groups on the campus.
Analog Sketching, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop
The client was looking for a logo that felt professional, open to all students, and "loud and proud'.
Pictured above are visual samples I presented to my client based on our initial discussions about the style they wanted to achieve for these project. From there I began the sketching process, developing different directions that they logo could go in.
After refining the sketches based on client feedback, we came to a single direction to move forward with.
In this design, we have the letters PAL and within the negative space of the A is a figure of a person reaching out their hand. This design highly resonated with my client as they felt that this element reflected the mission of their organization; to connect the student body with the alumni association.
The full logo is the primary method to official identify PAL. The logo should be used prominently on the front of all publications and other media such as displays, advertising, and websites.
The full logo lockup has the logotype aligned with the full width of the logomark and a clearing space equal to one circle/head of the figure.
The logomark is an informal method
for identifying PAL. This version is mainly for casual communications and merchandise imprints such as pens, T-shirts, coffee mugs, etc.
The secondary mark is not meant to be used as a substitute for the full logo. Typically the secondary mark is to be used as a design element or to identify PAL in smaller settings such as pins, hats, stickers, etc.
